Get Your Green On

Put be careful where you spend your night because not all pubs are as mellow:

Genuine Green: As the Bronx-born son of an Irish patriot immigrant to America - and, by quirk of Irish law, born a citizen of the Irish republic in addition to being a native-born American, I'm as appalled as any formerly drunken Irishman - but you're all forgiven.

Plastic 'pubs' full of bogus- antique "Irish" signs (made in China), and framed copies of old, unidentifiable Irish football or hurling teams, do not an Irish bar make. The Guinness may be real, but when there's too many fiddles and flutes in the band (with no 'squeeze box', drum or volunteer tenor singing) - yer talkin' twenty-something wannabees.

It's the gab, laddies, that makes an Irish bar.

But it was a thoughtful nice try, anyway . . .
