In Defense of Flight Pay

Want to know why they pay combat aviators more money?

It isn't enough.

We could never pay those who serve enough. On the ground or in the air or under the water, those who go in harms way are a treasure beyond worth.

Thoughts:
Dear Lord what is all that humming?!

What is this? Sky? Cloud covered ground? How can they see?...

Oh, God - so glad I cannot tell as that BBQ is churning at the mere THOUGHT that THAT is the horizon...

SHUT UP! He's concentrating!

Fuck me, but that man can fly...BREATHE, MAN!!

Is he giving up? He sounds tired. God, don't give up...

Ed, there is just no way - there are no words, really. I'd go hungry if the dollars would fill their pockets...thank you.

On YouTube the comments note that Strobe 3 had no chaff or flares on that mission and his evasion was being done "the old-fashioned way"!!!

It makes me feel so dated! We had no chaff or flares. We in the Weasel flights kept our ECM pods turned off because they interfered with the Weasel's detection gear.

My intermediate service school was with the Army and I was selected for a follow on assignment to the School for Advanced Military Studies (SAMS), the "Jedi Knight" training academy. As the sole fighter pilot in a school of grunts, I had to defend the USAF in a wide variety of discussions from joking taunts to heated arguments. Desert Storm had occurred while I was in CGSC (timing is everything, mine sucked), so the CGSC class that arrived while I was in SAMS contained a large number of veterans. After one particularly vigorous discussion about USAF golf courses and air conditioned dorms, I played this video for my staff group. For the rest of the year, I still got the joking taunts, but the vitriol was long gone.
