Damning With Faint Praise

Want to learn how to laud an American hero while at the same time under-cutting his achievements and demeaning the sacrifices of an entire profession? Here is a classic example. Pay attention to the four member panel that comments on the end of a career:

WaPo Says Good-Bye

I'm not sure they value what the man stands for or what he accomplished.

Very interesting. The spokesman says the loan guarantee/jumpstart program is "on pace" to create "thousands" of jobs.

OK, just using the limited information given: One such company defaults on $535 million guaranteed loans - others may follow, but this we already know. For the sake of discussion, we'll further assume the aggregate created jobs at 9,999 - after all, he said "thousands", not "tens of thousands".

So, the rough math says that each created job costs over $50,000.
Using rough math again, we'll assume these wage earners to be in the 20% marginal bracket, but giving the benefit of the doubt, we'll say they pay $10,000 in taxes. So the net 'investment' per created job is still around $40,000.

Only a financial illiterate, such as resides at 1600 PA Ave, could consider this investment. Any accountant would label them as 'costs'.

The only investment being made is in creating a permanent underclass of loyal Democrat voters.
