Memorial Day

Yawn.
Gimme the British Red Arrows, any day. They appear out of nowhere from behind you, so low that their oil smoke envelops the crowd. They do the 'starburst' (bomb burst) pointing at the ground - directly over your head.

I saw the T-birds in F-100s, and was impressed. I saw them a few times in F-4E shapes, and was more impressed; great noise! (Even though we were later stuck with those VFR only cross-country shells in standard VN camo paint jobs.)

Then OPEC fuel shortages forced the switch to T-38s; I saw them, too - but the thrill was gone.

I can't imagine traveling even a couple of miles to watch lawn darts cavort, a mile distant from the crowd. Sorry!
