The famous caution from Mark Twain is to never get into a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel. If you are the Senator of a state with one huge city controlling the electorate and one major newspaper providing them editorial comment, it would pay to display some courtesy.

You're giving Reid way to much credit by asking what he was thinking. I'm not fully convinced that the three stooges (Barry, Harry and Nan) are capable of coherent thought.
Good post Ed. My mother and brother live in Nevada so my family has a dog in this fight. I sent the Journal a message of support.
